Lawmakers in Louisiana are considering decreasing the wait time for a divorce to six months if the couple has minor aged children. The current one year wait period, meant to give couples time to reconcile actually creates animosity and expenses. Childless couples or couples with children from previous relationships have a shorter wait time. Supporters of this decreased time believe that the one year wait does nothing to save a marriage while opponents believe making divorces easier will increase the divorce rate.
